When any business, large or small decides to improve their online presence through web design or online marketing there are plenty of options available to them in the market. It can be a difficult decision, from that company you saw with TV adverts to that friend of a friend who's a web designer and everything in between. It's important not to rush into any decisions as it's something you're going to want to get right first time!
So how do you decide?
Well I work for a small design agency so I'm always going to be bias towards choosing a local web design company, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm not right. Your website is going to be a huge investment for your firm and is a great opportunity for you to increase your market share. No matter what decision you make, no web designer is going to know your business as well as you do so the most important thing is communication and building a relationship with those who are going to create the face of your company online.
Building a Relationship
By meeting in person with your web design team you can find out more about each others work, get your ideas across and start building a relationship as you are partners in this and should each want each other to do well. What you ultimately want is to hire a team that genuinely care about your project and business, by building up a relationship and feeling like you can go to them any time you need to - you will find someone who cares.
When Things Go Wrong
The Internet isn't perfect and unfortunately you're going to get problems with your site in the future. Wouldn't this be better if you can just pick up the phone and call someone you know and trust, who will go out of their way to get the problem solved as soon as possible?
Expanding in the Future
While initially you may simply be looking for a new website, down the line you may want to expand further and invest in online marketing. Whether it be paid search, email marketing, SEO or anything else your local provider is going to be able to help you with this, either by having an in house team or a recommendation of a reliable company to use.
